Legislative action in 2007 authorized a redesign of Missouri's license plate in order to comply with Missouri Revised Statutes 301.130.9. MoDOT Motor Carrier Services was to issue new license plates for Missouri-registered commercial motor vehicles beginning in June 2008. However, Senate Bill 930, which goes into effect on Aug. 28, 2008 (today), grants an exemption from plate reissuance requirements.
It states:
EXEMPTION FROM REISSUANCE REQUIREMENT - This act exempts permanent non-expiring license plates that are issued to certain commercial motor vehicles and trailers from the new plate design and reissuance requirements that take effect on Jan. 1, 2009 (Section 301.130).
Carriers who add new trucks or trailers to their business or who replace lost, stolen or damaged plates will receive the new license plate design. Missouri-registered equipment can bear either the new design or the plate issued before June 2008.
