Legislative action in 2007 authorized a redesign of Missouri (MO)’s license plate. As a result, new license plates will be issued for MO-registered commercial motor vehicles beginning in June 2008.
Carriers who add new trucks or trailers to their business or who replace lost, stolen or damaged plates will be the first to receive the new design. The remainder of the plates will be distributed as carriers renew their registration. In Missouri, International Registration Plan renewal dates are staggered. Expirations take place on September 30, December 31, March 31 and June 30. Therefore, carriers who renew for the June 30, 2009 deadline will be the last to display new plates on their power units.
Please honor an extension period and delay enforcement action on Missouri commercial motor vehicles that operate in your jurisdiction until 60 days past the registration date indicated on the carrier’s IRP cab card. Valid 2008 or 2009 registration credentials for these vehicles titled, “Missouri IRP Apportioned Cab Card” must be present in the vehicle.
There is no deadline to replace permanent trailer plates. Missouri-registered trailers can bear either the new design or the plate issued before June 2008.
Please see the official memo below from MO for further details. Kim Wekenborg may be contacted with additional questions. Also, please see the Vehicle Enforcement Bulletin, which will be provided to carriers to keep with their credentials.
