In Fond Memory of Richard L. "Rick" Reeves, 1948-2004
The Richard L. Reeves IRP Leadership Award honors the memory of a man who dedicated his career to making sure the transportation industry had a fair and equitable approach to vehicle taxation and registration. Although Rick was a member of the motor carrier industry, he continually worked to achieve equality between the jurisdictions and industry. He always had a smile and a handshake for everyone he met.
“Rick” Reeves began his distinguished career in 1977 at North American Van Lines (NAVL), which is now known as SIRVA. In 1987, Rick was promoted to Director of Fleet Registration where he remained until his passing in December 2004.
During his years at NAVL, Rick actively represented his company and the industry on numerous committees including the original IRP Governing Board, which is now the Dispute Resolution Committee. He was also a member of the National Governor’s Association Base State Working Group and the Industry Advisory Committee Steering group for both IRP and IFTA. Rick contributed to the IRP Plan Rewrite and served as the lead for the industry on the IFTA Plan Rewrite. Additionally, he contributed and took an active role in many of the IFTA/IRP Audit Workshop breakout sessions. He also served for many years as a member of the former American Trucking Association’s Taxation and Reciprocity Committee.
In addition to these accomplishments, Rick was an active member of the Indiana Motor Truck Association’s Executive Committee and worked on a number of legislative issues affecting the motor carrier industry in Indiana.
