See the workshop materials.

The 6th annual IFTA/IRP Managers’ and Law Enforcement Workshop took place Sept. 26 - 29, 2017 in Salt Lake City, UT. This proved to be another successful workshop with over 150 attendees. A variety of subjects were presented by IRP, IFTA, law enforcement and industry representatives.

Highlights included:

  • Attendees learned about the differences between established place of business and residency, plus what is required for validation through interactive case studies.
  • An attorney shared how IRP and IFTA cases are prosecuted and how administrative and audit staff can support success.
  • A live demonstration showed how law enforcement use infrared technology to detect potential safety violations on commercial motor vehicles.
  • The impact of state marijuana laws on law enforcement was discussed.
  • A robust town hall covered a variety of questions.
  • Attendees participated in a live truck inspection completed by a driver.
  • Truckers Against Trafficking educated attendees about domestic sex trafficking and how the trucking industry is combating it. Attendees visited the organization’s mobile exhibit which included actual artifacts from trafficking cases that connect people to the backstories of so many who end up enslaved.
  • The IFTA Charles Mills Award of Excellence was presented to of Dave Couprie of Manitoba, along with a touching ceremony including a tribute to our fallen officers from the past year.
  • Patricia Platt was recognized. Pat passed away in August 2017, and was the IFTA commissioner of Kansas.
  • The IFTA and IRP Industry Advisory, IFTA Agreement Procedures, IRP Education, and IFTA Law Enforcement Committees all held open meetings.
  • A host of volunteer-led networking activities also allowed attendees to continue their discussions in a more casual setting.
